The Steam Curtain. "aka" the Tinting Doctor, is used to help in the removal of existing window film from the rear window on most sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and SUVs.
While this product works well, it is not guaranteed to work perfectly on all old film, even though it does help loosen the glue in the worst cases.
Overview
Designed specifically for professional window tinting applications, the Steam Curtain is primarily used for the safe and efficient removal of old window film, particularly from curved glass surfaces like car rear windows.
How It Works
It utilizes pressurized steam to soften and unbind the adhesive (glue) from the glass. The objective is to allow the film to be peeled off in one piece, not guaranteed to come off in one piece, but that is the objective. This should significantly reduce the labor-intensive scraping and cleaning typically required.
Key Components
Main steam unit with a minimum of 1.8-liter water capacity. A Jiffy steamer works well, but a pod-type presurized unit is the preferred type; adapters for both steames are included.
Specialized mounting frame that secures to the rear window
A steam gun with an auto-lock lever for continuous spray is best suited.
Operating Method
Attach the device to the window's interior
Run a pre-heated 12 to 20 minute steam cycle
Heat weakens the adhesive bond and softens the polyester
Remove the tint with minimal residue left behind
